Ulysses Marshall was born in Vienna, Georgia. He was educated at Albany State Univer
sity in Albany, Georgia in sociology. He received his Bachelor's of Fine Arts degree from the Maryland Institute College of Arts in Baltimore. Furthermore, hew went onto receive his Masters degree from Hoffberger School of Painting, Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Whitney Independent Study Fellowship, New York. He has also received the Phillip Morris Fellowship and several Maryland State Art Council Individual Artist Awards.
"My goal as an artist is to use these story tales as a tool for sharing the plight of the almost forgotten colored people. I wish to preserve the pride, dignity, courage, and survival of a people's journey from slavery to slave. A people whose lives have been ben, but not broken."
